5 Questions with Connor Rupp
5 Questions with Connor Rupp
What makes you stand out among the other young players? Coach Seth Knudsen often sets you as an example for the rest of the team.
Coach likes me because of my effort every week and how I try very hard to stay in position, but a lot of players don't, and he just likes my overall positioning.
How do you make your positioning the best it can be?
I just follow orders, I just do what I'm told; try not to get in trouble.
How does your talent helps improve the team?
I wouldn't say I help improve the team, I just say I'm a good part of the team, mainly. I don't play a lot, but when I do, I help the team.
You see yourself as kind of like a piece of the puzzle?
Yeah, just not a giant piece.
Is it the small things that make you well-liked by the coaches?
Yeah, every little thing that I do right helps me improve my game.
Comets Lose to Indian Hill, 4-1
Comets Lose to Indian Hill, 4-1
CAMP DENNISON- The Mason Comets hockey team, despite showing a strong effort, were held by Indian Hill to only one goal in a 4-1 loss.
Head coach Seth
Knudsen said that the tough Indian Hill defense closed up the shooting lanes,
therefore not allowing the Comet offense to score goals.
“It was tough to get
multiple chances in a row,” Knudsen said. “We got one through, and then they
did a really good job of clearing, doing a good job defensively against us, and
the chances we had, we didn’t convert.”
The first period had
the Comets go off to a slow start, with Indian Hill peppering the net with 15
shots. However, all were stopped by goalie Sam Lemmink, and the score was tied
through one.
Knudsen said bad turnovers led to opportunities for Indian Hill.
“We were turning the
puck over too much,” Knudsen said. “We tried to clean that up because they had
a couple of chances that we normally wouldn’t like to give up.”
In the second,
however, the Comets hit their stride. They spent much more time in the offensive
zone, while Indian Hill were the ones chasing the puck. The drive hit its peak
with a goal from freshman wing Nicholas Osterwisch, assisted by senior center
Patrick O’Grady and sophomore wing Nathan Davis.
“[Osterwisch] played
well the last couple of games,” Knudsen said. “He’s a smart player, he can
skate well, and he played great today, and playing with O’Grady doesn’t hurt
much either, but he sees the ice so well, and he makes his teammates better.”
However, the momentum
died when Indian Hill scored a goal, making the score 3-1. The Comets were put
into a hole which they could not climb out of, eventually losing by three.
“[The play was] tough
to stop,” Knudsen said. “We got our guys caught out there a little bit long on
the shift, and we broke down a little bit defensively, but you’ve got to give
them credit, they made a good play.”
